The loss of my Father crippled me with hatred and I started my university chapter with the wrong attitude to succeed and fulfill my final promise to him which was to graduate from Monash University.
I never spoke up and I let the hatred consume me so much so that it led me down a path into the darkness. Independence was what I wanted but not what I expected, but thankfully Monash intervened and forced me to speak up. There is nothing quite as empowering as someone who has faith in you when you don't have faith in yourself. As the saying goes, faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain. Years into my degree I had to start over and take one step at a time to rebuild my strength. This process built up my resilience and work ethic, and not only did it help me with my studies, the principle of persistence helped me with all other areas of life such as relationships, physical and mental strength. The great Napoleon Hill did say that "failure cannot cope with persistence". I've never heard truer words spoken. See once you apply yourself your attitude takes a turn for the better and that's the only ingredient you need to sustain a fulfilling lifestyle. It takes pain to build strength and it takes failure to succeed. Along the way, I was inspired by amazing people, many of which I can call my mentors. Its infectious to be empowered, and it is the fundamental root cause that enabled me to make it to the end of my degree this year. I walk away from Monash as a greater person, and not only do I owe them a material loan that can be easily repaid with discipline, but I owe them eternal gratitude for making me a better person than when I stepped in. It is why I have made it my life's mission to pick up those along the way and inspire them whilst I continue to be inspired by others.
I have begun to realize that the only way you can conquer your future is by making peace with your past and living in the present.
So next month I will be representing TRY Australia, a fitting organisation for me to work for as they have a mentoring department that helps young children who have experienced difficult upbringings find their feet through the empowerment of a mentor. So please find it in your heart to donate, as any amount goes a long way. All the proceedings will go back to TRY Australia and help them help our future in what is children. I can say this with pride that love is the only cure for a crippled soul once filled with hatred.

All money raised through Run Melbourne will support TRY Mentoring, which matches positive adult role models to disadvantaged and vulnerable young people facing barriers to education and employment.
This year our goal is $3000! Every $80 will support a young person to join our group mentoring program. Every $1200 covers the cost of volunteer assessment, training and ongoing support for 12 months.
