I have fought hard to overcome and survive through chronic depression, anxiety, postnatal depression, panic disorder and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Part of this journey has seen me overcome myriad health obstacles. I have overcome morbid obesity, lost over 25 kgs and am almost one year sober.
As part of my journey to wellness I have thrown myself into running which is good for my mental health and gives me a sense of freedom and achievement. I am undertaking the Run Melbourne 'Half Marathon' challenge to raise awareness, vital funds for support and to combat stigma that still exists in the community today.
I am a passionate believer that all these things are vital to reducing Australian suicide rates which are preventable through resourcing, community effort, acceptance of mental health challenges and involvement in working towards eradicating isolation and discrimination for those experiencing mental health challenges and their circles of support.
My vision is for extra resourcing and an increase in vital services provided by Beyond Blue to ensure they are always available to those who suffer mental health issues. I am of the firm belief that without having accessed some of these services myself, I may not have survived to tell my own tale of survival.
Now that I have acquired some strength through adversity of my own personal battles I want to advocate from a lived experience perspective for others who are still suffering or 'at risk'. Please help make a difference by contributing to my campaign. I pledge to do the training and the run (all 21.1kms of it) if you dig deep and support me. Together we can help change and save lives!
