I've created this page because I want to make a difference in the fight against MND. Inspired by my late wife Nancy, I strive to not only make a meaningful contribution towards those battling MND, but want to uphold her legacy - that is, one filled with courage, determination and most importantly, love and joy.
Nancy’s diagnosis of MND in 2015 was a blow to everyone and the disease had no mercy. Both physically and emotionally. One day, Nancy was upstairs with my mum and she stood in the doorway of the kids’ bedrooms just staring in. She turned to my mum and said that one day, she won’t be able to walk up the stairs and see the kids sleep at night.
No one gave us a “how to guide” for MND. We would learn after the fact, we would hit road blocks, re-assess and learn how to manage things better. Countless times we found ourselves ringing the hospital saying “okay, this is what has happened, what do we do now?”. Nancy tried her absolute hardest to maintain her independence. She was unwavering – pushing herself to the limits as she continued walking, talking and even driving, all so she could pick up the kids from school. The equipment, the hoist, the bed – it was all a challenge but she never complained. She carried herself with grace and dignity – and despite how brutal the disease is and how terrible it was for her, she kept on smiling and maintained her positivity.
Nancy might have lost her battle with MND, but she won the war. MND never defined her, she reinvented it with her strong will to live. Nancy touched the lives of many - to her friends and relatives, Nancy will be remembered as a vibrant soul, one who lit up the room whenever she entered. But for us, most of all, Nancy was the best wife and mother who would always go above and beyond to make sure we were loved and cared for.
I'll be running 10km on the 29 July 2018, and would love nothing more for you to join me. If running is not for you, then please help me keep Nancy's determination and strong will to live alive by donating through the "Give Now" button. The more people that know about Fight MND, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
Your generosity and constant support is heart felt and deeply appreciated.
